Greater balance = improved performance
As Term 2 is a peak time for assessment I thought it timely to mention the benefits of having a healthy balance when managing school demands. In order for your daughter to juggle all of the tasks, exams, performances, revision and homework over many weeks is vital to participate in other regular activities. These could include any number of physical activities that wake the body and mind up. Down time is just as important to switch off the mind so it can recharge and focus for the next deadline. It is vital that this activity and study balance is timetabled just like the classes at school. Working with your daughter in mapping out a timetable not only maximises the available time but allows you to see how intense this time of year is and be understanding to the pressure that is placed on them.
We have a Homework Centre that is available from 3.00 pm until 4.00 pm in the school library every Monday and Tuesday. The library is staffed by Maths, HSIE and Science teachers from Week 2 until Week 5. This opportunity allows students to catch up, revise or ask for more help in preparing for all of the assessments. The teachers volunteer their own time to support this program and welcome any new students as well as regular attendees.
If your daughter is struggling with the requirements of high school and she is feeling upset, frustrated or angry we have many staff to support her. The first step is to ask for help. Our Year Advisers are dedicated teachers who will listen and work with you and your daughter to smooth out the bumps she has in her journey. Is your child unsure how to work to a deadline? Teach them how to find the end date and work backwards to plan their preparation activities. These assignment starters on popular topics also help kids to kick-start their projects.

So sit down with your daughter, plan for balance, and if you get the balancing act right, at the end of this term the rewards will be there.
